No. Most consumer gun safe fire ratings are based on controlled furnace tests that do not replicate the heat intensity or thermal transfer rates of a real residential fire. In real-world conditions, temperatures rise rapidly, We have demonstrated that in an actual fire environment, a “90-minute rated” gun safe can reach critical internal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

If a safe is exposed to high heat, the damage may not be visible — but it can be permanent. Hardened steel components such as bolts and trigger groups begin to degrade around 380°F. At approximately 680°F, annealed steel, including barrels, can lose structural integrity. You will never know how hot your guns were. Fire exposure renders firearms unsafe to shoot.

Traditional fire-rated safes rely on drywall-based liners and adhesives that contain pyrite and formaldehyde. Pyrite can react and, through ferrooxidizing bacteria, release sulfuric and sulfurous acids. Adhesives can off-gas formaldehyde — both of which are highly corrosive to steel. These materials are banned in military armories for that reason. SecureIt safes eliminate these materials entirely, reducing corrosion risk without requiring aftermarket dehumidifiers or anti-corrosion products.
